Gary built this radical ISCA (International Show Car Association) top division winner as a self expressed promotion. When first completed it was considered the most radically painted car in the country. The magazines loved the Corvette & many articles were written.
Specializing in Fiberglass, Gary reshaped the entire car; The roof was cut off & then replaced to eliminate the factory point at the back of the roof. "I think points belong in the front of cars not in the back". The nose was extended & reshaped to create a split grill effect. The original tail lights were removed & a hand made, one of a kind, one piece, taillight was created under a hand made rear spoiler. Wheel well flairs were added to accommodate the huge rear slicks. (tires)
Wild graphics, using candies & pearl paints. Almost every color was used. Flowing very loose designs were created, impromptu, on the top half of the car, while the bottom was strictly measured straight, angular & precise graphics.
The interior was really a radical stretch, by everyone's standards. A bright orange velour type Naugahide was used to create the first & probably the only bench to ever be put into a Corvette. The concept was Gary's, but the upholster was by Ed Guyer of the Recovery Room.
Gary topped off the 427 cu in Chevy engine with a 4 port Hilborn injector on top of a 671 GMC Supercharger. Plenty of horsepower to lift the front wheels off the ground. Of course it was all chromed! The complete undercarriage was also chromed. Gary drove his '63 on the street & it can be seen on Sunrise Hwy., one of Long Island's main arteries, in one of the pictures in the center fold article below.
