East Meadow is located in Nassau County (Long Island), New York, United States.  Located 30 miles Manhattan.  It's name is derived from being the east meadow of the Town of Hempstead east of the Meadow Brook Parkway (originally a brook)  The population was 37,461 at the 2000 census.
    It is rumored that President George Washington spent a night on the Barnum estate during a trip across Long Island in 1790
